How to get over financial mistakes

o-STRESSED-WORRIED-WOMAN-STOCK-THINKSTOCK-OWN-facebook-e1398158843278-700x357Today, I have successfully completed Day 7 of the The Budgetnista’s Live Richer Challenge. Oh yes! The Live Richer Challenge is a free, online financial challenge created by The Budgetnista to help women achieve 7 specific financial goals in 36 days. I signed up for it the very day I started this new journey to wealth, thanks to a financial article (can’t remember which now) I was reading online at the time. Personally, I think everyone can sign up for this. 36 days. You’ve got nothing to lose. You won’t become stinking rich at the end of the challenge but it gets you started or re-started on your financial goals with discipline, which is what I want to talk about today. Continue reading

The start of a new journey

savings growthHello. My name is Peace Hassan. I am a Software Engineer working with the Nigerian Insurance Industry Regulator. Four days ago, precisely 15th October 2015, I had a wake up call.

A young boy in my church struggling to make his life useful was finally offered admission to a polytechnic after so many trials. He called me to ask for money to support him. That same day, I decided on taking my vacation leave from work and I thought of where to go to relax. I did not necessarily want to travel out of the country, all I needed was someplace nice to relax. I proceeded to check my accounts balances and there it was, almost nothing! Where did all the money go? I frantically pulled out my accounts statement for the year and I realized, I spent all the money. I didn’t invest it. I didn’t buy a house or land. I didn’t start a business. No one duped me either. I simply spent the money.

I have worked hard for 3 years and 5 months. I have earned so much this year including bonuses that came from an increase in my salary. And I had nothing to show for it. Not a single share. It suddenly hit me that this could have been 20 years or my retirement day and I would have nothing to show for all my years of hard work if I do nothing about it. That was my wake up call.

I realized even though I worked hard, I knew nothing about money. I became dissatisfied with how I managed my finances. I wanted to do something about it and I made a decision that day to change my life. I will be wealthy. I will help others. I will enjoy the good things of life. I will not envy other wealthy people. No. I will make myself a VIP guest at the banquet table of life and this is the journey.

One year from now, 15th October 2016, I will wake up with a new mindset, debt-free, a wiser manager of money and an investor. This is my journey to wealth and I am here to share it with you. Like I said, I know nothing about money but I am determined to learn all there is, ask till I drop, act as long as God gives me Grace and share with as many people as I can carry along till I am wealthy.

You are welcome to join me. Please get in, buckle your belts and let’s ride!
